Day at the River

Nozomi and the kids on River Day

It was the very first time for Zack and Ellie to play in the river. And to experience it in Tokyo:) What a blast! They got to "fish" using nets, and they caught crawfish and tiny fish.

While Zack continued his netting, Ellie enjoyed a ride on a rubber boat!

I got a bit grossed out when I saw an earthworm. But then a while later, something really heavy and fast weighed down my net. Holy cow!! No, it was a 3-ft long snake!!!!!! It swam right through Zack and Ellie's legs, and went on its merry way down the river toward all the other kids in the water. I was trying to warn them, "S-s-snaaaake!" The funny thing was, it really didn't seem to alarm the others much. Someone caught it and threw it on the ground to look at, and then let it back into the river with the rest of the children. I'm assuming it wasn't poisonous nor dangerous, but it was enough to get me and Ellie out of the water for a while.

It really was neat to enjoy the awesome nature that God created, even the earthworm and the snake. I'm thankful for the fun memories we are making here in Higashi Kurume. Please come and visit us!!!
