Diamond Days

At the recent birthday party we held at our house, our guests told us about the upcoming "Diamond Days."

No, this is not the huge annual engagement ring sale.

It's a 2-3 day window every year in which the sunset hits Mt. Fuji in such a way that it makes the famous mountain look like a diamond. Moreover, you can see this rare occurrence right down the main street of our city, Higashi Kurume. But it only lasts for moments each day.

So I took my camera and went to the recommended spot. I noticed a number of other folks holding cameras there, so I knew I was in the right spot. Once the sun went down, Mt. Fuji came into view and we marveled.

It's really quite beautiful. I went the first day and had to bring the family the next day, because it's breathtaking. Photographs do not do it justice, but here are my feeble attempts to capture this sight...
