Back by popular demand, here are a few more...
Did you know:
- That even though I have a “dryer”, that I hang dry mostly everything on a daily basis? Yes, every sock and underwear is clipped onto a clippy-thingy, and you just HOPE that it doesn’t rain while you’re out.
- That we take off our shoes at the genkan (an entryway where all the shoes are neatly lined up), and can never enter a Japanese home with shoes?
- That you offer slippers to guests?
- That there are special bathroom slippers ONLY for bathroom use (and that missionaries often forget to change back to house slippers after going potty, and walk around the house in bathroom slippers, to the horror of the hostess)?
- That the toilet is located in one room, and the bathing area/tub is another room?
continued...
- That the toilet flusher has 2 directions to flush: one for small jobs and another for big jobs?
- That you never, ever soak in the tub before you wash? You have to get clean out of the tub first, because the same bath water is used for the next person.
- That Zack and Ellie’s room upstairs is a “tatami mat” room, which is made of woven straw, and it has a very strong smell…I can’t even describe it, but it’s really strong, the kids will tell you!
- That Coke and Diet Coke (called “no calorie coca cola”) just don’t taste the same?
- That military time is used in Japan? It always freaks me out when our digital clock says 18:09…I meet you at WHAT time??
