Wanna Be His Hands and His Feet, Part 1

...we were SO glad that we went, and felt blessed to share a little bit of Jesus' love to these precious men and women. The cards that we handed out were simple...I just printed out the words to "Jesus Loves Me" in Japanese. So we had the opportunity to sing it over and over again to small groups of people in the home.

One lady was so cute. She has dementia, so she kept returning the card to me over and over again. I told her about 15 times that she could keep it. Each time, she thanked me:) I don't know what job she had in her life, but she could speak a little bit of English, and some German, I think! I wished I could have a conversation with her, but she kept wanting to sing, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"...so we did, again and again.

When we were singing "Jesus Loves Me," we noticed that one of the ladies knew the words, and she was singing along with us! I asked her how she knew, and she said that she used to go to church when she was young. But now that she's in the home, she no longer does.

Another lady made all of us cry. She was so, so happy that we came. She kept telling us that her family and grandchildren live pretty close, but she rarely gets to see them. She kept remarking how cute our children are, and how they remind her of her own grandkids, whom she doesn't get to see very much at all.

As she thanked us for coming, she cried. We all got choked up. And I was amazed at how happy we were able to make this one person in just 5 minutes. That's all it took.

More than that, I was struck by the fact that all of these men and women have a very short time left here on this earth. I felt a sense of urgency, way more than I felt when I was in a nursing home in the States. I know why. It's the sickening reality of the infamous percentage here in Japan. Less than 1% of the Japanese know Jesus. May we be Jesus' hands and feet to reach the elderly population in Japan. May God convict the churches in Japan to reach out to them with a sense of urgency!
