Back in Action

Zack noticed something strange when I took off my shirt to get ready for an evening bath.

"How did you get a bad sunburn in wintertime, Dad?!" he exclaimed.

"What do you mean, son?" I asked. "I don't have a..."

I glanced down and abruptly stopped mid-sentence. Sure enough, my entire chest, stomach and shoulders were redder than a July sunburn after a full day at the beach with Coppertone #2 frying oil! Then the next morning came the hives... and with them, the itch.

With no idea which of the five medicines was the culprit, I decided to stop all medications, including the Advil for the headache and sore throat. In their place, I used plenty of rest, plus good ol' fashioned hot tea and cough drops to weather the bad cold. I spent a lot of time on the couch. Many a day, my voice was so low, my family wondered if the wrong husband and Daddy had invaded their home.

The rash finally subsided after about a week.

Then, getting a little energy back after 3 weeks, I headed off for a 2-week trip. I spent a week in Karuizawa for the annual Asian Access spring retreat, and then a week in Thailand for the leadership summit, which brought leaders from ten countries for a time of reconnecting, reporting, praying and brainstorming.

Last week, during Zack's & Ellie's spring break, we took them to an amusement park. While on the Flying Carpet ride, Zack bonked his chin on the safety bar. And I tensed up so much during the surprisingly jerky ride that I tweaked my lower back.

Back to the couch I went!

But now, finally, I'm back in action. Thank you Lord!
