Japan FAQs

What is the Yen-US$ exchange rate?

The Japanese Yen is roughly JPY100-120 to US$1.

As of:

  • 18-Dec-2008 --> US$1 = JPY88.40
  • 11-Dec-2008 --> US$1 = JPY91.59
  • 08-Nov-2008 --> US$1 = JPY98.24
  • 21-Jul-2008 --> US$1 = JPY106.71
  • 31-Jan-2008 --> US$1 = JPY106.66
  • 27-Aug-2007 --> US$1 = JPY116
You can see that the US$ has lost a lot of strength against the Japanese yen, and this means that the U.S. funds we raise don't buy as much as they used to -- about 20% less than when we first moved to Tokyo in August 2007!
